Jamaat-e-Islami’s Amir and opposition leader Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has referred to himself as the son of a martyred family. He made the demand at the beginning of a discussion on the referendum and the July charter in the 13th parliament session on Tuesday.
He said that even though the independence of the country has passed fifty-four years, the expectations of the people of the country have not yet been fully realized. He said that despite the change of government at various times, the desired progress has not been achieved.
Addressing the speaker, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, “You are a heroic freedom fighter. I am also a member of a martyred family — some of our family sacrifices in the Liberation War.”
He also mentioned that it is important to build a just state for future generations by remembering the history and sacrifice of independence.
Earlier, he introduced himself as a member of the martyred family at different times, but this was the first time that he raised such a demand in the formal session of the National Assembly.
