Speaker of parliament Hafiz Uddin Ahmed (Bir Vikram) Dilara Hafiz has died while undergoing treatment in Singapore. He took his last breath at 1pm local time on Saturday. He was seventy-eight years old at the time of his death.
According to family sources, he was in Singapore for better treatment and was undergoing treatment at a hospital there. His death has created a sense of mourning in the political and social spheres.
According to the family, the body will be brought to Bangladesh on Sunday evening. The first namaz-e-janaza will be held at 11am at the South Plaza of the National Parliament House on March 30. Later, he will be buried at Banani Military Cemetery after the second funeral at the Central Mosque.
Sources said preparations are underway to mourn the death of Dilara Hafeez in the state and political quarters.
