At an event in Jessore, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit, highlighting the current status of the government’s energy policy, said that despite the instability in the global market, the government is providing subsidies of an average of Tk 167 crore per day to avoid increasing the pressure of price increases on the country’s consumers.
He made this information while speaking as the chief guest at a program to distribute financial assistance checks among the needy and helpless people on Friday afternoon. The state minister said that even though the price of fuel has increased in the international market, the government is trying to keep the supply system normal by not adjusting it in the domestic market.
According to him, if fuel prices increase, it could impact the prices of electricity, public transport and daily necessities, which would create additional pressure on the lives of the common people. In this context, the government is trying to keep prices stable.
The State Minister further said that the demand for fuel has increased significantly in recent times. Whereas earlier the daily demand for diesel was about 12,000 tons, it increased to 24 to 25,000 tons during the pre-Eid period. Similarly, the demand for petrol and octane has also increased.
At the end of the event, one-time financial assistance checks were handed over to 153 underprivileged individuals.
