The capital Dhaka has received its first hailstorm of the season. Hailstorms and gusty winds were observed in various areas of the city for a short period of time after 7 pm on Friday.
The Meteorological Department has said that isolated thunderstorms are likely to occur in different parts of the country in the next few days. According to meteorologists, thunderstorms during this period are usually short-lived and occur due to the influence of locally formed clouds.
Meteorologist Shahnaz Sultana said that the trend of pre-monsoon storms, i.e. Kalbaisakhi, has already started in the country. Such storms and rains may be seen isolated in different parts of the country until Wednesday.
According to the Meteorological Department’s forecast, gusty winds, rain or thundershowers with lightning are likely in some areas of Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and one or two places in Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal and Chittagong divisions on Saturday. During this time, day and night temperatures may increase slightly across the country.
Similar weather conditions may prevail in some areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions on Sunday. In that case, the day temperature may decrease slightly but the night temperature may increase slightly. There is a possibility of rain or thundershowers in different parts of the country from Monday to Wednesday and this trend may continue in the next few days.
Meteorologists say that storms during this period are usually not long-lasting and do not occur in all areas of the country at the same time. Local cloud formation causes sudden, short-term rain and storms.
According to the Meteorological Department, the highest rainfall in the country in the last 24 hours was recorded in Sylhet – 83 millimeters. Apart from this, 47 millimeters were recorded in Netrakona, 36 millimeters in Moulvibazar, 18 millimeters in Dinajpur, 12 millimeters in Bogra and Naogaon, 11 millimeters in Panchagarh, 9 millimeters in Feni and 6 millimeters in Rangpur.
On the other hand, temperatures are also rising in different parts of the country. The highest temperature recorded in the last 24 hours was in Jessore—36.4 degrees Celsius.
