Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) has set new limits on the sale of fuel at filling stations amid concerns over fuel stockpiles in the country and a trend of over-purchasing.
The new directive states that fuel should not be sold more than a certain amount depending on the type of vehicle.
In a directive issued on Friday, the BPC said that due to the recent global situation, various rumors have been spread about fuel supply. As a result, many customers are trying to procure more oil than required, which can create instability in the market. This regulatory measure has been taken to keep the situation normal.
According to the new rules, motorcycles can carry a maximum of two liters of octane or petrol and private cars can carry a maximum of ten liters. Jeeps and microbuses can carry twenty to twenty-five liters of fuel. Pickups and local buses can carry seventy to eighty liters, and long-distance buses and trucks can carry a maximum of two hundred to two hundred and twenty liters of diesel.
The BPC said that the country currently has adequate fuel oil reserves and supply through rail and tankers to various depots is normal. It was also said that the government has not yet taken any decision on increasing oil prices.
