Prime Minister presents rank badge to new IGP

    • Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has officially bestowed the rank badge on newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir .

    The formalities were completed at a brief ceremony held at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Secretariat on Wednesday afternoon. Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed and Home Secretary Manjur Morshed Chowdhury were present at the ceremony.

    Earlier, in a notification issued by the Home Ministry on Tuesday , Ali Hossain Fakir, who was serving as the Additional IGP of the Armed Police Battalion (APBN), was appointed as the country’s IGP.

    Ali Hossain Fakir, a 15th batch officer of the BCS (Police) cadre, was dismissed from service in the past due to political tensions and later sent on compulsory retirement. After the change of government on August 5, 2024, he returned to service through legal process and later received promotion and took charge of IGP.
