Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has given a message to strengthen discipline and accountability in the police administration. His clear instructions are that police station officers (OCs) will not call the minister directly; the chain of command cannot be broken. At the same time, he announced the implementation of a ‘zero tolerance’ policy against lobbying and corruption.
The minister made these remarks at the first exchange of views with officials of the Home Ministry at the Secretariat on Wednesday (February 18). The meeting was attended by senior officials including the DMP Commissioner and the DIG of Dhaka Range.
The minister said that the organizational discipline of the police will be strictly maintained. Any behavior outside of professionalism—banners, flower bouquets, or individualistic displays is not acceptable. Transparency and accountability will be the priority, without returning to past controversies.
He also took a strong stand against creating public suffering in the name of demands. Although processions and gatherings are democratic rights, highway blockades or chaos will not be tolerated. He ordered that one lane of the road be kept open during the program if necessary.
After the meeting, the Home Minister avoided direct comments on the IGP change when asked by reporters.
