Dhaka—Ahead of the upcoming elections, the Bangladesh Army has identified the capital’s Dhaka-14 and Dhaka-16 parliamentary constituencies as ‘high risk’. Including these two constituencies, about 18 percent of the total polling stations in Dhaka-14, 16 and 18 constituencies have been assessed as risky.
Army Mirpur Camp Commander Lieutenant Colonel SM Fuad Masrur gave this information at a press conference held at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in Mirpur on Saturday afternoon.
He said the polling stations have been divided into three categories – normal, medium risk and high risk. Security plans have been taken according to the level of risk so that voters can travel to the polling stations without any hindrance. The army will serve as the ‘striking force’ during the election.
Lieutenant Colonel Fuad Masrur said that strict action will be taken against anyone who tries to create chaos by spreading rumors or false information. At the same time, he requested journalists to conduct preliminary verification before broadcasting any news of chaos, so as not to spread false or provocative information.
He also said that the safety of candidates and media personnel will be ensured and everyone is urged to immediately inform law enforcement if a risky situation arises anywhere.
