BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman has alleged that despite the fall of the autocratic regime, the repressive political culture in the country has not stopped; rather, some forces of “secret identities” have re-emerged as oppressors. He made these remarks at an election rally at Bells Park in Barisal city on Wednesday.
Tarique Rahman said the state will run through the verdict of the people and there is an opportunity to form an accountable government in the upcoming elections. However, he alleged that a political group is openly using derogatory language about women and belittling the people, which is against democratic values.
He said, “Human dignity cannot be expected from those who do not know how to respect women.” Quoting a leader in Comilla, he called these comments a manifestation of the arrogance of power.
Regarding the development of Barisal, Tarique Rahman mentioned river erosion as a major problem and stressed the need for building sustainable embankments. He also promised to implement unfinished projects if BNP comes to power.
Stating that the country’s progress is not possible without the participation of women, Tarique Rahman said that the desired Bangladesh can be built only through the combined efforts of men and women. He urged voters to be cautious and said, “If the wrong decision is made, the people will have to pay the price.
