Fifty-seven bilateral observers from 16 countries are coming to Bangladesh to observe the upcoming 13th parliamentary elections and the referendum on the ‘July Reform Charter’. The elections and referendum will be held on the same day, February 12.
The Chief Adviser’s press wing said that Malaysia is sending the largest number of bilateral observers with 14 members, while Turkey is sending the second largest delegation with 12 parliamentarians. In addition, observers from various countries in Asia, Europe, Africa and the Middle East will also participate.
In addition to bilateral parties, hundreds of observers from international human rights and democratic governance organizations, including the European Union and the Commonwealth, will monitor the election process. So far, the participation of about 400 international observers has been confirmed.
It is worth noting that nearly 2,000 candidates from more than 50 political parties are contesting the 300 seats in the National Parliament in this year’s election. At the same time, a nationwide referendum on the ‘July Reform Charter’ will be held.
