Russia has issued a sharp sarcasm and warning to European countries following US President Donald Trump’s announcement of new tariffs on Greenland.
“They shouldn’t provoke Daddy,” said Kirill Dmitriev, Russia’s presidential envoy and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, addressing Europe.
In a post on social media, Dmitriev claimed that Trump has decided to impose new tariffs on eight European countries, including the UK, Denmark, and France, because they are engaging in a “dangerous game” like sending troops to Greenland.
According to the announcement, a 10 percent tariff on goods from these countries will take effect from February 1, which could be increased to 25 percent in June. Trump said that this tariff will remain in place until a deal is reached regarding the purchase of Greenland.
Trump has long expressed his interest in taking control of the island, claiming Greenland is important to US national security.
