The Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) has taken a strong stand demanding the resignation of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director M Nazmul Islam. The cricketers have announced a boycott of all sports until their demands are met.
Speaking at a press conference at a hotel in the capital on Thursday, COAB President Mohammad Mithun said that the cricketers are not against the game, but will not take to the field until their demands are met in protest against the defamatory remarks. He alleged that the BCB director has insulted the entire cricketing arena and all related sectors with one comment after another.
At the press conference, wicketkeeper-batsman Nurul Hasan Sohan said that although the cricketers are ready to play, there is no question of returning to the field without meeting their demands. However, they said that there has been no discussion with the BCB president on this matter yet.
The COAB also said that this decision has been taken after observing the situation for a long time. The cricketers will not withdraw from the movement unless respect and dignity for cricket is ensured.
