The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has questioned former commissioner Md. Zahurul Haque for about three hours on charges of bribery, abuse of power and fraud. He appeared at the ACC head office in Segunbagicha in the capital on Wednesday morning and left after the interrogation at around 1:30 pm.
ACC sources said that the main focus of the interrogation was on allegations of irregularities in the allocation of plots by the Capital Development Authority (RAJUK) and incorrect information in the asset declaration. It is alleged that despite the plot being in the name of Zahurul Haque’s wife, it was not mentioned in the asset declaration submitted in 2014. He said that he did not pay attention to this matter.
The ACC also said that allegations of receiving financial benefits from the accused in the case under investigation, taking bribes from two major telecom operators, and money laundering are also under investigation. He may be summoned again if necessary.
It is worth noting that there is a case against Zahurul Haque for causing huge losses to the state by reducing international call termination rates, and a ban has been imposed on his departure from the country.
