BNP Secretary General and Thakurgaon-1 constituency candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that although the election environment seems fairly good so far, the real situation will become clear after the official campaign begins. Before that, it is not possible to understand the real picture of the election.
Talking to reporters at his residence in Thakurgaon town on Monday (January 12) morning, he said that political parties are currently arranging organizational preparations and nomination-related matters. Only when the campaign begins will the reality on the ground become clear.
Expressing deep concern over the law and order situation, Mirza Fakhrul said that due to the government’s failure, the weapons recovery and security situation have not improved yet. However, he expressed optimism that the situation will improve during the elections.
Regarding cricket, he said that international politics has an impact on the game and insulting a Bangladeshi cricketer means insulting the country. Although he supported the decision of the cricket board, he advocated resolving minor issues among themselves.
Responding to a question about the big party’s vote-getting, he said that since the Awami League is banned, BNP is the tested political force in the field as a big party. He highlighted the role of BNP in state reforms, including establishing multi-party democracy, independence of the press and judiciary.
Mirza Fakhrul, speaking about party chairman Tarique Rahman’s visit to the northern region, said he will soon come to the region and visit the graves of various martyrs.
Regarding the referendum, he said, “It is the responsibility of the people to vote, not the BNP.” The BNP Secretary General also reiterated his commitment to achieve a fair share through diplomatic negotiations with India on the issue of water sharing of Teesta and Abhinna rivers.
