BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman is contesting the upcoming 13th parliamentary elections. His election campaign will officially begin from Sylhet on January 22, party sources said.
As per the long-standing tradition of the BNP, the party chief starts his campaign from Sylhet. In line with that, Tarique Rahman will also start his election campaign by visiting the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) and Hazrat Shahparan (RA).
Tarique Rahman returned to Bangladesh on December 25 with his family after 17 years in exile in the UK. His mother and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia died a few days after his return. After that tragic incident, he was declared the party chairman at a meeting of the BNP standing committee on Saturday night.
Tarique Rahman has contested the 13th National Parliament election from Bogra-6 and Dhaka-17 constituencies. Speaking at a greetings exchange with media editors at a hotel in Dhaka on Saturday regarding the election campaign, he said, “The election is coming, we are members of a political party. Naturally, we will go to the people with all kinds of plans from January 22.
