Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has called an emergency meeting of the party’s standing committee. The meeting will be held at the BNP chairperson’s political office in Gulshan at 9:30 pm on Friday.
Party sources said that this is not a pre-scheduled meeting and no specific agenda has been announced. However, the meeting is being seen as very important. Because it is in this meeting that a decision to elect Tarique Rahman as the new chairman of BNP may be made.
BNP Standing Committee member Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain confirmed the meeting to the media. Earlier, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir had said that Tarique Rahman will soon be elected as the party chairman.
It is worth noting that Tarique Rahman was made the acting chairman of BNP when Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia was imprisoned in 2018. The post of party chairman fell vacant after the death of Begum Khaleda Zia on December 30.
