Investigators have said that hired shooters were used in the murder of Azizur Rahman Musabbir, the former general secretary of the Dhaka Metropolitan North unit of the Swechchhasebak Dal in the capital. Analysis of CCTV footage has partially identified the faces of at least two shooters.
Law enforcement agencies are investigating the case with three main aspects in mind: extortion, political conflict, and regional dominance.
Mushabbir was shot dead in a planned manner on Wednesday night while returning home in the Tejturi Bazar area. His accomplice Abu Sufian Masud was also injured in the attack. Police recovered three empty shells from a 7.65 bore pistol from the scene. Investigators say 5-6 people took part in the murder, two of whom opened fire directly.
DMP Tejgaon Division Deputy Police Commissioner Ibne Mizan said that efforts are underway to arrest those involved in a coordinated operation by the police, RAB and DB. The deceased’s wife has filed a case citing political differences. BNP and the Volunteer Party have demanded the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the killers. Protest programs have been called across the country on Saturday in protest of the killing.
