Bangladesh has restricted the issuance of tourist visas for Indian citizens. Tourist visa operations have been curtailed at Bangladeshi consulates located in several cities in the country, the BBC reported.
The report said that the issuance of tourist visas from the Bangladesh Deputy Embassies in Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai is currently limited. Earlier, the Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi and the Assistant High Commission in Agartala had stopped issuing visas. As a result, only the Assistant High Commission in Guwahati is currently issuing Bangladesh visas to Indian citizens.
Although there has been no official announcement from the Bangladeshi embassy in this regard, officials said that tourist visas have been limited since Wednesday. However, other types of visa activities, including commercial ones, are still ongoing.
It is worth noting that on August 5, 2024, after the political change in Bangladesh, four Indian visa centers in the country were vandalized and protested. Due to this, India temporarily closed all types of visa operations. Although the visa centers were later reopened, India decided not to issue visas other than medical and emergency needs for the time being. Currently, Indian tourist visas for Bangladeshis are completely closed.
