Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has given a firm assurance that there will be no more rigged elections in Bangladesh. He said the Election Commission believes in fairness and justice and all candidates will receive equal and fair treatment from the commission.
He made these remarks while talking to reporters after visiting the booth for appeals filed against the cancellation and acceptance of nominations at the Election Commission Secretariat premises in Agargaon on Thursday morning.
The CEC said that the candidates who have appealed against the cancellation or validity of their nomination papers will be resolved through a complete legal process. The commission is working with utmost transparency and will ensure equal opportunities or ‘level playing field’ for all in the elections.
He further said that every stage of the appeal hearing will be transparent and impartial. Each application will be thoroughly reviewed and a decision will be given according to the law, so that no party is deprived.
In light of this statement by the CEC, new expectations have been created in the political arena regarding the upcoming elections.
