A mild earthquake was felt in various parts of the country at 4:47 am on Monday. The US Geological Survey (USGS) said that the two earthquakes that originated in the Indian state of Assam had magnitudes of 5.4 and 5.2 on the Richter scale.
According to international media reports, the earthquake shook parts of Bangladesh, Myanmar, Bhutan, and China. However, there were no immediate reports of damage.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department said the epicenter of the earthquake was in the Dhing and Morigaon areas of the Indian state of Assam, at a depth of about 10 kilometers. The distance from Dhaka to the epicenter is about 346 kilometers.
Earlier, earthquakes were felt in different parts of the country several times in December and November. The latest earthquake of magnitude 5.7 that occurred in Madhavadi, Narsingdi on November 21, reported 10 deaths and injured hundreds of people across the country. Concerns are growing as earthquakes are being felt frequently in recent times.
