The Office of the Chief Adviser has issued instructions regarding security and discipline for the funeral and burial of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. The instructions state that participants in the funeral will not be allowed to carry any bags or heavy items.
Begum Khaleda Zia passed away at 6 am on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital. Her funeral will be held at 2 pm tomorrow, Wednesday, at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban grounds and Manik Mia Avenue area.
The directive further states that since the burial ceremony is being conducted in a state-run manner, the general public will not have access to it. After the funeral, he will be buried with state honors next to the tomb of martyred President Ziaur Rahman in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar at approximately 3:30 pm.
It is worth noting that Khaleda Zia, known as the ‘uncompromising leader’ through the anti-dictatorship movement of the 1990s, led the BNP for 41 years. She was a five-time member of parliament, three-time prime minister, and two-time opposition leader.
The interim government has declared three days of national mourning following his death. At the same time, a one-day general holiday has been declared across the country on Wednesday, the day of the funeral.
