Dhaka — BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman paid tribute to the martyrs of the great Liberation War by laying flowers at the National Memorial in Savar. The bus carrying him entered the memorial complex at 10:04 pm on Friday (December 26) and left for Dhaka at 10:32 pm.
During the tribute, law enforcement agencies set up a tight security cordon in the memorial area. Members of RAB, BGB, army and armed police performed their duties. Party leaders and activists present welcomed Tarique Rahman with slogans.
Earlier, as it was not possible to reach the altar before sunset, top BNP leaders placed wreaths at the Shaheed Altar on behalf of Tarique Rahman at 5:06 pm on Friday. BNP standing committee members Gayeshwar Roy and Dr. Abdul Moin Khan, along with central and Dhaka district leaders, were present.
On the same day, at around 4:45 pm, Tarique Rahman also paid tribute to the tomb of martyred President Ziaur Rahman at Zia Udyan in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital.
BNP media cell member Shairul Kabir Khan said Tarique Rahman expressed regret over the delay in reaching the memorial and thanked party leaders and workers for the long wait.
