BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman said their goal is to build a Bangladesh where every person can leave their home safely and return safely. He said, “We all want to build a safe Bangladesh that a mother imagines.”
He made these remarks during a public reception held on 300 Feet Road in Purbachal, Dhaka, on Thursday (December 25) afternoon.
Tarique Rahman said that just as people united and achieved independence in 1971, in 2024, people from all walks of life have played a role in protecting the country’s independence and sovereignty. In his words, today the people of the country want to regain their right to speak and democratic rights.
He further said, “The time has come to build a safe state with people from all religions and communities, from the mountains to the plains. Their expectation is a Bangladesh where everyone, be it women, men or children, can move around safely.”
Emphasizing the role of the young generation in future state-building, he said that the country must be built on a strong democratic and economic foundation. At the end of his speech, he said three times in a row, “We want peace in the country.”
Earlier, he reached the public reception stage at 3:50 pm. He was welcomed there by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
After 17 years in exile, Tarique Rahman returned home from the UK on Thursday morning. He landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 11:40 am.
