Dhaka—Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has ordered to take necessary measures at any cost to maintain the law and order situation in the country ahead of the upcoming national elections.
He gave the instructions at a high-level meeting held at the state guest house Jamuna on Sunday, the chief adviser’s press wing said on Monday.
Home Affairs Advisor Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, National Security Advisor Dr. Khalilur Rahman and top officials of law and order and security forces were present at the meeting. The discussion covered the return of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman to the country, security preparations for Christmas and English New Year, and the recent violence.
The progress of the investigation and arrests in the murder of Inqilab Manch spokesperson and July fighter Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi was also reviewed. Police said that at least 31 people have been identified after analyzing video footage of the attacks on the offices of two national dailies and two cultural organizations; six of them have been arrested and the operation is ongoing.
The chief advisor ordered the prompt arrest and bringing to justice of those involved in all the related incidents, saying that ensuring a peaceful environment is the government’s top priority.
