BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman will return to Dhaka on December 25, said party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. He gave this information at a briefing at the party office in Gulshan on Friday night.
Fakhrul said, “The party is making preparations to welcome him.”
Tarique Rahman went to London for medical treatment after being released from prison in 2008; he has been staying in the UK since then. After the Awami League government was toppled in a mass uprising by students on August 5 last year, his convictions in various cases were quashed or acquitted, paving the way for his return to the country.
Amid Khaleda Zia’s deteriorating physical condition, Tarique Rahman recently commented on social media that there are some obstacles to her return due to political realities, although her family’s “optimism” about her return is “unwavering.”
The government has repeatedly stated that there is no obstacle to Tarique Rahman’s return to the country .
