Japan’s northeast has been hit by a major earthquake for just four days. The magnitude of the quake was 6.7 on the Richter scale, which was 11pm local time on Friday.
Japan’s Meteorological Department (JMA) said the epicentre of the quake was about 20km deep under the sea off the coast of Aomori. Authorities see it as a continuation after a 7.5-magnitude earthquake in the same area on Monday.
Residents in the Chiba region, east of Tokyo, have been warned in the new risks. The JMA said the possibility of more powerful earthquakes in the near future is not being ruled out.
So far, no significant damage or damage has been reported.
