The High Court has declared the house of former Awami League MP Abdus Salam Murshedi in Gulshan-2 as an ‘abandoned property’ and ordered it to be handed over to the government. The 52-page judgment was published on the Supreme Court’s website on Tuesday.
A bench comprising Justice Md. Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Kazi Ibadat Hossain had given the oral order more than a year ago. The full verdict reiterated the order to hand over the property within three months and for the government to take possession within 90 days. It also asked that the house be preserved in the public interest instead of being leased out privately.
The Ministry of Housing and Public Works has also been ordered to submit an affidavit to the court within 15 days of taking possession of the property.
Lawyer Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Suman filed a writ petition against Salam Murshedi in 2022, accusing him of occupying the house as ‘abandoned property’. He is currently imprisoned in a murder case.
