Amidst the critical health condition of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, fresh discussions have begun regarding Tarique Rahman’s return to the country, who is in London. The government has informed that he can get a ‘one-time pass’ in a day if he wants.
Foreign Affairs Advisor Touhid Hossain said on Sunday on DCAB Talk, “If someone wants to return to the country without a passport, we will give them a one-time entry pass. It takes one day. If Tarique Rahman says today, we can give it tomorrow—there is no obstacle to that.”
In a Facebook post on Saturday, Tarek said that the decision to return home was “not under his sole control.” When questioned about this statement, the foreign affairs advisor commented, “There is no prohibition from the government. There is no question of preventing anyone from returning to their own country.”
Meanwhile, Khaleda Zia’s physical condition is still critical. She is undergoing treatment under the supervision of the Evercare Hospital Medical Board. BNP leaders said that the decision to take her abroad is still uncertain as there is no improvement. Touhid Hossain also said that the government will provide assistance if needed.
Khaleda Zia, 79, is suffering from multiple serious illnesses. She was admitted to hospital last week after being diagnosed with a chest infection. Her condition has remained “same critical” for the past two days, party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said.
Tarique Rahman has been living in London since 2008. After recent political changes, renewed discussions have begun about the possibility of his return to the country.
