BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman can return to the country if he wants, said Shafiqul Alam, the press secretary to the chief adviser, who clarified this position in a post on his verified Facebook page on Saturday.
The press secretary said that Tarique Rahman’s recent comment—that “the decision to return to the country is not under his sole control”—raises the question of whether there are any obstacles from the government. In response, he said, “There are no restrictions from the government on his return to the country.”
He also said that Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has expressed deep concern over the physical condition of Khaleda Zia, who is undergoing treatment in the hospital, and has sought prayers from the countrymen for her.
Earlier, Tarique Rahman wrote in his Facebook post that although his mother’s desire to be by his side during her critical time is strong, political reality does not leave her decision-making path completely open. He expressed hope that the long wait will end when the situation is favorable and he will be able to return home.
