A mild earthquake in the Bay of Bengal shook Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, at midnight. The epicenter of the magnitude 4 earthquake, which occurred at 3:29 am on Thursday, was about 118 kilometers away from Teknaf.
Earthquake-based site Volcano Discovery said the tremor was so low that most residents did not feel it. The site could not confirm the depth of the epicenter, but EMSC said the quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers.
A week before this incident, a powerful 5.7-magnitude earthquake had caused panic across the country. People in various areas, including the capital Dhaka, were forced to flee their homes and take to the streets. The tremor, which originated in Narsingdi, killed 10 people and injured hundreds.
