U.S. President Donald Trump will travel to Beijing next April, following a recent phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping, during which he agreed to the visit. Trump has also invited Xi for a state visit to the United States next year.
The two leaders discussed a wide range of issues, including trade, the war in Ukraine, Taiwan, and fentanyl. According to the White House, the call lasted nearly an hour.
Beijing said bilateral relations have been moving toward stability since the two leaders met in South Korea last month, where both sides reached a partial understanding on tariff tensions. China added that both nations are committed to maintaining positive momentum based on mutual respect and shared benefits.
During the call, Xi reiterated China’s firm stance on Taiwan, saying that its “return” is essential to China’s postwar geopolitical vision. Trump, however, made no mention of Taiwan in his public statement.
Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social: “Our relationship with China is very strong!”
