Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Dr. Abdul Momen has said that, along with domestic assets, candidates must also disclose any assets they own abroad in their election affidavits.
He made the remark on Sunday morning while responding to questions from journalists during the foundation stone–laying ceremony of the ACC’s Sylhet divisional office.
He stated, “The ACC is asking for statements of assets, and it would be unfair if foreign assets are not included. At the same time, the ACC will take action against anyone found to possess unexplained or illegally acquired wealth.”
Highlighting various limitations of the ACC, Dr. Momen said, “In 2008, Sheikh Hasina declared 5.21 acres of agricultural land. But our investigation found it to be 29 acres. Although the ACC uncovered this at the time, no action could be taken.
