Bangladesh is on the verge of whitewashing Ireland in the ongoing Test at Mirpur. After four days of play, the Tigers hold a commanding lead. Chasing a massive target of 509 runs, Ireland has managed 176 for 6 wickets.
On the final day, Bangladesh needs just 4 more wickets for victory, while Ireland still requires 333 runs—an almost impossible task.
This is the first time since May 2022 that a Mirpur Test has gone into the fifth day. Previously, all five-day Tests in Mirpur had concluded within four days.
On the fourth day, Bangladesh declared their second innings at 141 for 3. Sadman Islam was dismissed for 79, while Mominul Islam fell just short of a century at 87. Mushfiqur Rahim, unbeaten on 53, became only the second player after Ricky Ponting to score a century and a fifty in his 100th Test.
Although Harry Tector scored a fifty for Ireland, it did little to shift the momentum. With three of the six wickets in this innings, Taijul Islam’s tally has now reached 249 Test wickets.
