Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay has arrived in Dhaka on a two-day state visit. The Druk Air flight carrying the Bhutanese leader landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 8:15 a.m. He was received by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.
The Chief Adviser’s Press Wing confirmed the arrival.
The two leaders held a brief meeting at the airport’s VIP lounge, during which Prime Minister Tobgay inquired about the casualties and damages caused by Friday’s earthquake and expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
After the meeting, Tobgay was escorted to a temporary saluting dais, where he was accorded a 19-gun salute and a guard of honor.
Following the ceremony, the Bhutanese premier is scheduled to visit the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar to pay tribute to the martyrs of Bangladesh’s Liberation War. He will lay a wreath at the monument and sign the visitors’ book.
Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Adviser and Commerce Adviser are expected to meet with Prime Minister Tobgay later in the afternoon. Around 3 p.m., he will meet Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus at his Tejgaon office.
In the evening, Prime Minister Tobgay will attend a state banquet held in his honor.
