Sujon, the rickshaw puller who drew widespread attention on social media after his symbolic salute during the July movement, is now seeking to enter national politics.
On Thursday, he collected nomination papers from the National Citizens Party (NCP) to run as a candidate in Dhaka–8.
Sujon, who rose to sudden popularity, said public support has given him the courage to pursue politics. “Nothing is impossible when people stand with you,” he said.
According to the NCP, today is the final day for selling nomination forms, and the party has set a target of distributing 3,000 forms. Earlier, Khokan Chandra Barman, who was injured during the July uprising, also collected nomination papers from the same party. He is currently undergoing treatment in Russia.
