On Monday afternoon, protesters attempting to bring bulldozers to Dhanmondi 32—the residence linked to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina—were dispersed by police and military personnel.
The incident coincided with the verdict day in the “crimes against humanity” case against Hasina. One army personnel was injured in a sound grenade explosion.
Eyewitnesses reported that two bulldozers, brought by youths affiliated with a group called “Red July,” were being used to try to enter the building. Security forces intervened with baton charges and sound grenades. During the scuffle, one soldier was injured.
Police said they positioned personnel at both ends of the road to ensure public safety. Of the two bulldozers, one was not deployed, while the driver of the other fled the scene.
Previously, on August 5 last year, following Hasina’s departure from the country, the building was subjected to arson and looting. On February 5, during the “Bulldozer March” protest, the house was partially demolished.
Masud Alam, Deputy Commissioner of Ramna, said, “They came to demolish the building. We tried to stop them through explanation.
