Actress Mehazabien Chowdhury and her brother Alisan Chowdhury surrendered before the Dhaka Executive Magistrate Court on Sunday and sought bail in a case filed over alleged threats. Their lawyer, Tuhin Howlader, confirmed the submission of the petition in the court of Executive Magistrate Afroza Haque Tania.
Just before appearing in court, Mehazabien posted on social media, clarifying that she is not involved in any business activities.
In her Facebook post, she wrote:
“I am Mehazabien Chowdhury. I am shocked to see the news of a false and fabricated case filed against me. I believe this is completely baseless and motivated. I have no direct or indirect involvement in any such business activities. I do not know the individuals who filed this baseless case.”
Stating again that she has no ties to any business, she added,
“Those who know me, know that I am fully dedicated to my acting and professional responsibilities. I am not engaged in any business where legal complications could arise. As a responsible citizen, I believe in the laws, rules, and social responsibilities of the country. My lawyer has already initiated the necessary legal steps to stop these rumors and false allegations and to prevent such motivated actions in the future.”
Expressing respect for the law, Mehazabien further wrote,
“As an artist and a conscientious citizen, I have always adhered to the laws, ethics, and social values of the country. For more than a decade, I have worked in the media with dedication and sincerity — my audiences, colleagues, and well-wishers are witnesses to that. I request my fellow media professionals not to publish unverified or baseless information. To my well-wishers, fans, and acquaintances — your love and trust are my biggest strength. Please stand by the truth and avoid spreading confusion.”
The case is currently under judicial process.
