Bangladesh secured a commanding victory by an innings and 47 runs in the first match of the two-Test series. The Tigers wrapped up the Irish resistance shortly after lunch on the fourth day to seal the win.
Ireland were bowled out for 254 in their second innings. Bangladeshi bowlers dominated throughout the match. Debutant Hasan Murad claimed four wickets, while Taijul Islam took three. Nahid Rana added two more wickets.
Ireland resumed the fourth day on 85 for 5, but the McBrine–Humphreys partnership failed to flourish; Taijul dismissed Humphreys early. Although McBrine and Balbirnie added a 64-run stand in a brief display of resistance, it did not last. Balbirnie fell for 38, trapped lbw by Murad, and McBrine was dismissed for 52 by Nahid Rana.
Towards the end, a 54-run partnership between Jordan Neil and Barry McCarthy could not save Ireland. Hasan Murad and Taijul cleaned up the tail to secure an easy victory for Bangladesh.
With this win, Najmul Hossain Shanto’s Bangladesh lead the series 1–0. The second Test will begin on 19 November in Dhaka.
