Rubaba Dowla, a well-known corporate leader and women’s sports organizer, has been appointed as a new director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). On Monday (November 3), the National Sports Council (NSC) officially sent a letter to the BCB nominating her as a councilor. With her inclusion, the BCB’s 25-member board of directors is now complete.
The NSC usually nominates two councilors. After the BCB elections held on October 6 this year, one of the nominated councilors, Isfaq Ahsan, resigned, and Rubaba was appointed in his place. It is reported that she had not taken charge earlier due to some official formalities related to her workplace.
Currently, Rubaba Dowla serves as the Country Director of Oracle for Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan. Previously, she held top executive positions at Grameenphone and Airtel. During her tenure at Grameenphone (1998–2009), she played a vital role in sponsoring the national cricket team and in establishing the National Cricket Academy in Mirpur in collaboration with the BCB in 2007.
Besides her corporate career, Rubaba has a long-standing involvement in sports administration. She served as the President of the Bangladesh Badminton Federation from 2009 to 2015 and was also a Board Member of Special Olympics Bangladesh during that time.
A BCB board meeting is scheduled to take place today, where Rubaba Dowla is expected to join. The other councilor nominated by the NSC is Yasir Mohammad Faisal Ashiq.
