BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman has said that in order to preserve the anti-fascist national unity, the BNP has chosen the path of compromise and cooperation from the very beginning. He stated, “As a responsible political party, the BNP has built unity with democratic forces on one hand and has continued to cooperate with the interim government on the other.” He also announced that the party’s single candidate list will be declared soon.
Tarique Rahman mentioned that as part of the preparation for the upcoming national election expected in February, the BNP has almost finalized the nomination process for candidates in all 300 parliamentary constituencies. He said that as a popular and mass-based party, BNP has multiple qualified aspirants in each seat. However, it is not possible to nominate everyone. He urged all leaders and activists to remain united and work collectively to ensure the victory of officially nominated candidates.
He further said that the BNP will not only support its own candidates but also back candidates from allied democratic parties who stood alongside them in the anti-fascist movement. Tarique urged party members to accept this political reality in the greater interest of democracy and the nation, emphasizing that party decisions must be regarded as final. He warned that conspiracies and misinformation campaigns might emerge to obstruct the democratic process.
Tarique Rahman also addressed issues related to women’s safety and expatriate voting rights. He expressed concern over the rising incidents of violence and rape against women, calling it a reflection of social indifference. He added that the BNP will take steps to make voting easier for expatriate Bangladeshis in the future. Highlighting the importance of the digital era, he stressed that BNP must strengthen its presence in cyber communication and digital outreach.
The event was attended by several senior BNP leaders, including Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moyeen Khan, and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury. Tarique Rahman concluded by saying that BNP is a party of the people, and the message of unity for restoring democracy is vital for shaping Bangladesh’s future.
