BNP Chairperson’s Adviser Mojazzem Hossain Alal has called for banning Jamaat-e-Islami for its involvement in crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.
Speaking at a discussion at the National Press Club on Saturday (November 1), Alal said, “Jamaat must be banned for its role in the genocide, rape, and atrocities of 1971. There cannot be two different standards of justice for the same kind of crime.”
He added, “The BNP should also raise the demand—if the Awami League can be held accountable or banned for its past actions, then Jamaat-e-Islami must also face a ban for its crimes during 1971. I draw the attention of the Chief Adviser to this matter.”
Alal further alleged that “the then government gave Jamaat various benefits. Many of their top leaders were once associated with Jasad (Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal) and the ‘throat-cutting groups.’ Since August 5, many members of Jamaat’s student wing, Shibir, have entered the Chhatra League and are now working openly.”
He also said, “Jamaat is now trying to change its image. They are holding rallies with members of the Hindu community to tarnish BNP’s reputation. BNP has become like the bark of an Arjun tree—people take from it whenever they need something.”
Commenting on the current political situation, Alal remarked, “The country has fallen into the hands of opportunists. BNP’s duty now is to remain patient and wait for the right time.
