The first high-level coordination meeting on preparations for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, scheduled for February next year, was held on Wednesday (October 29) at the state guesthouse Jamuna under the chairmanship of Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.
According to the Chief Adviser’s Office, the meeting discussed in detail the overall progress, necessary activities, and next steps for ensuring smooth election preparations. Following the meeting, a press conference was scheduled at 4 p.m. at the Foreign Service Academy to brief the media on the discussions.
Among those present were Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman, and the Chief Adviser’s ICT Special Assistant Fayez Ahmad Tayyeb. Senior secretaries from the Cabinet Division, Public Administration, Home Affairs, Local Government, Information and Broadcasting, and Cultural Affairs ministries, along with senior officials from the Election Commission, were also in attendance. Senior officials from the Armed Forces and law enforcement agencies participated as well.
Earlier, in an address to the nation on August 5, Professor Muhammad Yunus announced that the 13th National Parliamentary Election would be held before the holy month of Ramadan in February next year. Following the announcement, the Chief Adviser’s Office officially instructed the Election Commission to begin preparations.
The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) stated that the election schedule would be announced approximately two months before the polling date. The Election Commission has indicated that the official schedule (timetable) is likely to be announced in the first half of December.
Meanwhile, the National Consensus Commission has recommended, through a constitutional order, that the “July National Charter” be implemented and a referendum on the charter be held on or before the day of the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
