In recognition of their contributions to cinema and journalism, this year’s Fazlul Haque Memorial Award 2025 was awarded to renowned filmmaker Rayhan Rafi and journalist Alimuzzaman. The prestigious award, initiated by celebrated writer Rabeya Khatun, was presented at a grand ceremony on Monday (27 October) at the Channel i premises.
The event was attended by notable personalities including filmmaker Matin Rahman, Director General of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, poet Rezauddin Stalin, Chairman of the Prakriti O Jibon Foundation Mukit Majumdar Babu, culinary expert Keka Ferdousi, journalist Abdur Rahman, actor-director Afzal Hossain, Ananda Alo editor Rejanur Rahman, Bachsas General Secretary Rahat Saiful, CEO of Anya Prakash Mazharul Islam, and actress-director Afsana Mimi.
During the event, poet Rezauddin Stalin said, “We never got to meet Fazlul Haque, but we have seen his work.” He also mentioned that a docufilm on Fazlul Haque will be screened in the upcoming programs of Shilpakala Academy.
Tributes to Fazlul Haque were also paid by naturalist Mukit Majumdar Babu, culinary expert Keka Ferdousi, vocalist Khursheed Alam, actor Keramot Molla, and journalist Raju Alim. The speakers expressed hope that the late cinema personality would be officially recognized by the state.
It is noteworthy that the award has been given for the past 22 years in memory of the late Fazlul Haque, editor of Bangladesh’s first film magazine ‘Cinema’ and director of the country’s first children’s film ‘Sun of Pakistan (President)’.
At the ceremony, filmmaker Rayhan Rafi received the award along with his beloved mother, creating an emotional highlight of the event.
