Leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliated organizations staged flash processions in 11 areas across Dhaka on Tuesday morning. During police operations, 131 people were arrested, according to a statement from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
Police reported that crude bombs were exploded during several of the processions. Some individuals were arrested while taking part in the rallies, and others while preparing to join. The number of participants in each procession ranged from 5 to 30. Notably, the Awami League’s activities remain banned under the Anti-Terrorism Act until justice is served for the killings during the July uprising.
Deputy Inspector General (Operations) of Police Headquarters Rezaul Karim stated that members of the banned party are attempting to create instability ahead of the national election. He said the police are on high alert to prevent any deterioration of law and order. On Tuesday, flash processions were reported in Tejgaon, Khilkhet, Dhanmondi, New Market, Gulshan, Uttara, Jatrabari, and several other parts of the capital.
