The body of Shamim Maksud Khan Joy (26), a master’s student of Computer Engineering at Chittagong University (CU), was found with his hands and legs severed. The gruesome body was recovered on Sunday (19 October) evening from a forested area near Outer Ring Road in Ananda Bazar, under Chittagong City’s Bandar Police Station jurisdiction.
According to police, the deceased was originally from Barisal but lived with his parents in Bandar Residential Area, Chittagong. Joy had completed his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Technology from the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) and later enrolled in CU for a master’s program in Computer Engineering.
Bandar police sub-inspector Monirul Karim said that local residents spotted Joy lying in the forested area in a bloodied state around 3 pm and informed the police. He was initially taken to a private hospital and later shifted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Police sources revealed that Joy left his home around noon, informing his mother that he was going for a job interview. Before leaving, he received a call and mentioned to his mother that he was going to meet the caller. After that, he went missing.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause and circumstances of his death.
