A devastating fire has broken out at Adams Caps and Textiles Limited, a medical equipment manufacturing factory located in the Chattogram Export Processing Zone (CEPZ). The fire started around 2:00 PM on Thursday (October 16).
According to officials, 15 units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence have been working tirelessly for over three hours to bring the blaze under control. However, as of 5:00 PM, the fire was yet to be fully contained. The flames reportedly began on the seventh floor of the eight-story building and quickly spread to the sixth floor.
An official from the Agrabad Fire Service office said that multiple fire units rushed to the scene immediately after receiving the call. The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
At the time of the incident, over 500 workers were inside the factory, but no casualties have been reported so far. The fire has caused widespread panic in the EPZ area.
EPZ Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Jamir Hossain Zia confirmed that the fire started on the seventh floor of the medical equipment factory and later spread downward.
Earlier, on Tuesday (October 14), a massive fire at a printing factory and chemical warehouse in Mirpur’s Rupnagar Shialbari area of Dhaka claimed the lives of 16 people. The bodies were kept at Dhaka Medical College morgue, and 10 of them were identified and handed over to their families following DNA testing.
Fire service officials said that all efforts are being made to extinguish the fire in Chattogram EPZ, and the situation remains under close observation.
