The interim government’s Adviser on Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. Asif Nazrul, has said that the government is fully committed to holding the national election in the first half of February, with no second thoughts on the matter.
Speaking to journalists at the Secretariat on Wednesday, Dr. Nazrul described the recent criticism of advisers as a sign of “democratic progress.” He expressed optimism that all political parties will sign the July Charter, noting that the signing concerns the content of the charter, not the implementation process.
He said, “Political parties must also be open to hearing criticism directed at them. The criticism of the advisory council reflects a healthy democratic process.”
Regarding judicial reforms, Dr. Nazrul mentioned that establishing a separate Secretariat for the Supreme Court remains a key proposal. “We’ve made significant progress on this,” he said, adding that the proposal will be presented to the Advisory Council within a few weeks. “If approved, it can be implemented within the tenure of this government.”
Reaffirming the government’s position on the election, Dr. Nazrul said, “In every interim government, questions arise about whether elections will actually take place. Let me state firmly on behalf of the government — the national election will be held in the first half of February. There is absolutely no second thought about it.”
His remarks underscore that the current interim administration is fully determined to conduct the national election on schedule and to prevent any political confusion or uncertainty surrounding the process.
