BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir stated that any debate over Proportional Representation (PR) will take place in parliament. Matters on which political parties agree will be signed in the July Charter, while issues lacking consensus will be decided through a referendum.
He made these remarks on Wednesday (October 15) at a public discussion at Gopalpur School Ground in Gareya Union, Sadar Upazila.
Fakhrul said,
“Save the country, do not create division. They want to sabotage the election by demanding a referendum and PR. We do not want politics of violence. We do not want Hindu-Muslim division. We want to live together in peace.”
He also added that if BNP comes to power, there will be employment for one million people, family cards for every household, improvements in health and education, and special attention to farmers.
Regarding the election, Fakhrul said,
“I will vote for whoever I wish. We do not want to create division. Whoever the people vote for will be elected. We want a democratic Bangladesh with harmony and brotherhood. Do not forget, the party symbol is the sheaf of paddy.”
The meeting was attended by BNP district general secretary Paygam Ali, Sadar Upazila general secretary Mahabub Hossain Tuhin, and other party leaders.
