During U.S. President Donald Trump’s speech at the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, a disruption occurred when several opposition members protested, demanding recognition for Palestine. As a result, Trump had to pause his speech briefly. This was reported by the British news outlet BBC on Monday.
According to the report, in the middle of Trump’s speech, a lawmaker held up a placard reading “Recognize Palestine,” causing disorder in the chamber. Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana called on members to calm down, and the protesting lawmaker was quickly removed from the parliament. Local media reports suggest that at least two lawmakers were escorted out.
After the incident, Trump joked, “That was very effective,” before resuming his speech, adding, “This marks a historic dawn for the Middle East.”
He praised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, calling him “an extraordinary and courageous leader.” During this, some parliament members chanted Netanyahu’s nickname, “Bibi, Bibi.”
Trump also thanked Arab nations for their role in facilitating the ceasefire agreement with the Palestinian group Hamas, calling it “an incredible achievement” and noting that they had worked together.
He added, “This is now Israel’s golden era, and likewise for the entire Middle East.”
Trump also highlighted the release of Israeli hostages, stating, “After two long years of darkness, 20 brave hostages have returned to their families, and 28 loved ones have returned to this sacred land to rest in peace.”
He concluded by saying, “The guns have now fallen silent, peace has returned to the region, and we hope this peace will endure forever.”
