U.S. President Donald Trump has said that the Palestinian resistance group Hamas has been temporarily allowed to rearm with the permission of the United States. He made the remarks on Monday (October 13) while speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on his way to Israel.
Trump stated that Hamas is currently reorganizing and beginning to operate as a Palestinian police force. As part of efforts to restore order after the war, the group has been given temporary permission to keep its weapons.
He further said, “Hamas has lost nearly 60,000 members — it’s a huge loss and a matter of revenge for them.” Trump added that the United States’ current goal is to ensure the safe return of Gaza residents to their homes and to support the region’s reconstruction.
Meanwhile, the timeline for Hamas’s disarmament has become a key issue in the Gaza ceasefire agreement. Mediators have yet to reach a consensus on how and when the disarmament process will be implemented.
